Nadiya Hussain is a baker, columnist and TV presenter; who rose to fame after winning the BBC’s sixth series of The Great British Bake Off. She has since developed a career as a presenter, and has written several popular cookery books.
Bake Off Winner
The Bake Off winner learned basic cooking skills at school, teaching herself the rest using recipe books and YouTube videos. At the time of her appearance on Bake Off, she was a full-time mother studying for an Open University degree in Childhood and Youth Studies. Whilst appearing on the show, Nadiya Hussain baked 16 iced buns in three hours, put together a mille-feuille and created a show-stopping ‘My Big Fat British Wedding’ cake.
The final was the most-watched show of 2015, with more than 15 million viewers. Arguably the most popular winner of the show, Nadiya’s winning speech moved Mary Berry to tears as she encouraged everyone to believe in themselves and to never say that they can’t do something; one key lesson she would be taking forward into her life after the competition.
Nadiya Hussain On TV
It’s been a whirlwind journey for Nadiya since her win with a number of TV appearances, including the likes of The One Show, as well as going down such a storm as a guest panellist on Loose Women that she has since become a full time member of the team. It really is a breath-taking and inspiring story which all began 10 years ago thanks to a home economics teacher who saw the talent Nadiya had to offer and encouraged her to bake, bake and then bake some more.
She has since honed her skills and her many hours of baking practice came to fruition in the Bake Off tent as she simply blew away the competition.
Chronicles Of Nadiya
Nadiya has since gone on to travel to Bangladesh to trace her culinary roots in The Chronicles of Nadiya, present The Big Family Cooking Showdown, and has written several cookery books in addition to her weekly column for The Times Magazine. She has been commissioned by Disney, the London Dungeon and Buckingham Palace to make an Alice Through the Looking Glass inspired cake, a Great Fire of London themed loaf, and the Queen’s 90th birthday cake, respectively.
Nadiya Hussain is now available for cookery demonstrations where she can pass her tips and techniques on to others; as well as speaking engagements whereby her talks centre around her journey from wife and mother, to one of the best loved bakers in the country.
