Working With Charity

His current charity roles include; Chairman of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service Committee, the Commission on the Donor Experience and the DCMS Civil Society Implementation Group; He is President of “Fixers” and United Response; Vice President of Macmillan, Marie Curie and Hospices UK; and Patron of the Patchwork Foundation and Dementia UK.

Sir Lewis recently served six years as Chairman of NCVO (the National Council for Voluntary Organisations), the main umbrella organisation for the sector. During which time he chaired an enquiry into levels of senior exec pay in the voluntary sector. A long time campaigner for “solutions focused journalism”, he remains Chair of NCVO’s “Constructive Voices” project; Patron of Positivenews.org.uk and a Director of IPSO (The Independent Press Standards Organisation).

Wireless Agenda

In 2013 Martyn Lewis returned to broadcasting to present a weekly interview programme called “Agenda” on “The Wireless”, a new radio station for the over 50s” created by the charity Age UK. Martyn regularly gives speeches, chairs conferences and debates (most recently for the ICO, Barclays and the Charity Commission), and in June 2017 will launch his new company, Your Big Day Ltd, making unique use of historic archive film & video over the last century. He is also a director of Myperformancelearning.com, which has developed a new method for improving academic performance.

The several books Martyn has written include, Reflections on Success; for which he interviewed 67 prominent achievers from many walks of life. Ranging from Tony O’Reilly and Shimon Peres to Michael Palin and Billy Connolly; from Tony Blair and FW de Klerk to Sir Anthony Hopkins, Judy Dench and Lynford Christie. Another inspirational publication was Go For It, Martyn Lewis’s Essential Guide to Opportunities for Young People.

Martyn Lewis was awarded a CBE in 1997, and a knighthood in the 2016 New Year Honours List; for services to the voluntary sector.
