Mike Brearley had a successful cricket career and is regarded as one of England’s best ever captains. His ability to understand people and fellow team mates bought the best out of his colleagues. He played for Middlesex County cricket Club and became their captain.
Cricket Career
Between the years of 1976 and 1982 Middlesex won four County titles and two Gillette Cup or NatWest Cups. And of the 31 tests in which Mike captained the England team; 18 were victories and only 4 were lost matches. As a batsman he scored over 25,000 first class runs at an average of 38 a time.
Mike Brearley: Motivator
His ability to motivate players like Ian Botham whose greatest performances were under Brearley’s leadership; have earned him a reputation as a great leader. In 1985 Mike Brearley published “The Art of Captaincy”; a book that attempts to deal with leadership beyond, as well as on, the cricket field. It has been republished and is read by budding leaders in industry as well as cricketers.
Medical Career
He has also worked as a nursing assistant in a clinic for disturbed adolescents; as a psychotherapist for an inner London Unit and as a school counsellor. Mike is now a full time psycho analyst in North London.

He is a very experienced motivational speaker and describes his style as serious, lively and thought provoking; and he speaks at blue chip corporate events. Mike’s hobbies are varied and include walking, playing fives, classical music, the theatre and literature.
