Professional

Peter signed a professional contract with Bolton Wanderers in 1974. He won his first medal when Bolton were crowned the championship of the Football league second division in 1978. Reid transferred to Everton in 1982. Where many best remember him from. During his time in domestic football. Reid’s greatest achievement were being a part of the Everton team that won FA Cup in 1984, along with the Football League Championship in 1985 and again in 1987. As well as the European Cup Winners’ Cup also in 1985. The 1985 double winning season saw Peter Reid named the  PFA Footballer of the Year. His form was so good that year, he came 4th in the World Soccer Player of the Year award. A tremendous achievement.

England

Internationally, Reid won 13 caps for England. He was originally given his chance by the injuries to other players. Taking his opportunity. Peter excelled and became the linchpin of the England team in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Domestically, Peter played for a number of other clubs before eventually retiring in 1995 as a player. In 2006, he was awarded with the ‘Everton Giant’ accolade before he turned his attention to a career in management. Reid’s distinguished playing career allows him to shed light upon the requirements to succeed as a player in professional football. Along with the demands when he performs as a football speaker.

Football Manager

Peter Reid’s managerial career has had its ups and downs and seen him take charge of Sunderland, Leeds United and the England under 21’s. Undoubtedly Reid’s greatest accomplishment as a manager came in 1996 where he led Sunderland to the Football League Division One title, the first of two occasions he led them to this accolade, the tremendous achievement also led to Peter Reid being named the LMA Manager of the Year. Most recently Reid was appointed assistant manager at his first club Bolton Wanderers in 2016 where he remained until the culmination of that season.
