Glenn Hoddle is a highly respected former footballer, football manager and pundit. Glenn was born and brought up in Harlow, Essex. He started his professional career with Tottenham Hotspur, joining the club as a schoolboy apprentice in 1974.

Glenn Hoddle: Football Player

After 377 appearances for Spurs and 88 goals as well as winning the UEFA Cup 1984, FA Cup 1981 & 1982, and FA Charity Shield shared 1981, FA Charity Shield runner-up 1982, Hoddle moved to AS Monaco in 1987. In the same year, he sang with team-mate Chris Waddle on the single ‘Diamond Lights’; reaching number 12 in the UK pop charts.

Monaco Win

Glenn was again successful at Monaco winning Ligue 1 Title winner 1987-88 and French Cup winner 1991. In 1991, Glenn moved back to England as player / manager of Swindon Town for a couple of years; and got them into the Premier League as play off’s winners in 1993. This was followed by his move to Chelsea in 1993 where he finished his playing career in 1995.

Glenn Hoddle At Chelsea

At Chelsea his side reached the 1994 Cup Final; and played a style of football throughout that year not seen at Chelsea for a number of years. It was no surprise; he became the England national manager in 1996. Glenn lead the national side to the World Cup final in 1998, only to be knocked out controversially by Argentina; and towards the European Championship finals in 2000. Before an article in a newspaper brought his England management to career controversially to an end.

UEFA Football

As an international player, Glenn Hoddle made his debut in the 1980 UEFA European Football Championship; against Bulgaria scoring in a 2-0 win at Wembley. Hoddle made his 53rd and final appearance for England in the final group game of Euro 88.

Football Academy

After being England manager, Glenn went on to manage Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves with limited success. He went on to start his own Football Academy in 2008 based in Spain. The aim of the academy was to give another chance to young players; released by football clubs in England to become professional players. Ikechi Anya was his first player at the academy to get a professional contract at a club; with Sevilla Atlético in Spain.

In June 2011, it was announced that The Glenn Hoddle Academy had linked up with English Conference North side Hyde. The Academy had previously enjoyed a link with the Spanish fourth-tier side Jerez Industrial; providing their entire squad and coaches, but fell out in a dispute over cash.

Glenn Hoddle: Sport Pundit

He continues to have many offers to come back to football management. But found himself in demand as a football pundit working mainly with Sky Sports; but also working for ITV during their coverage of the 2014 World Cup in Rio.

Football Hall Of Fame

In 2007, Glenn Hoddle was inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame; which cited him as one of the most gifted English footballers of his generation.
