On stage Jim works besides his famous double bass; delivering “superbly dry humour” (The Daily Mail). Which has entertained audiences all over the world including: UK, America, China, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Sweden, The Falkland islands; and on several world cruise liners including, P&O cruises, Cunard  and The QE2.

TV & Film

His massive success on the comedy circuit led to plenty of TV & Film work. Jim Tavaré co-wrote and starred in ITV’s ‘The Sketch Show’ (2001-04), which won a BAFTA (Best Comedy series 2002) and was syndicated worldwide. To date ʻThe Sketch Showʼ has been remade for audiences in seven different countries. He wrote and starred in six highly acclaimed short silent films for BBC called ‘Jim Tavaré Pictures Presents’ (1995) starring alongside his partner Bassie, a larger than life double bass. This was followed by his own TV comedy sketch series ‘The Jim Tavaré Show’ (1999 Ch5); a thirteen part series co-written with Ricky Gervais, who also starred in the show.

Jim Tavaré has appeared on three Royal Variety Shows (1998, 1994, 1992) and went on to perform at several private functions for the British Royal Family; including a private Christmas party for HRH Prince Charles at the Ritz and a Gala held at Highgrove, in front of Her Majesty the Queen and thirteen Crowned Heads of State. Jim is renowned for being Prince Charles favourite comedian.

Jim Tavaré: Stand Up

His success as a stand up comedian spread to the US, when he became winner of ‘International Starsearch’ (USA). Jim went on to appear at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, which caught the attention of hit CBS show ‘Wings’ producers. He was invited to appear in an episode of the show, which was specially written and based around his comedy act.

Jim Tavaré holds the distinction of being the only overseas act ever to reach the final of NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing’ (2008). As a finalist, he embarked on a 63 date national US tour with NBC, as part of the ʻLast Comic Standing World Tourʼ. Soon he found himself in great demand for Comedy clubs, Colleges, Universities and TV & Film work all over America.

 

Film Work

His major film debut came, when he played Tom the Innkeeper in ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban‘ (2004). More recently he played the dog catcher in Simon Cowell’s family film ‘Pudsey‘ (2014). He has since made several film and TV appearances, including roles on: ‘Californication‘ (Showtime 2012), ‘Chuck’ (NBC), ‘Tosh’ (Comedy Central 2013), ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ (ABC 2013) and ‘Rabbit Fever’ (2006).

Corporate Events

Jim Tavaré excels in corporate event entertainment and Award Presentation; having performed over 1000 corporate shows in the last 15 years. He frequently crosses the Atlantic to perform for a variety of clients across the world, including most recently; The Royal Bank of Scotland, BP, Quantas, Motorsport World Expo, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Whittard, The Hilton Colombo, Scottish and Newcastle Beers, Enron and Barings Bank.

Deadpan to Bedpan

In March 2017 Jim Tavaré suffered a major car crash, which almost cost him his life. Comicus produced a highly publicised benefit show, featuring many of his comedy pals; in support of this special artiste. Yet in typical style Jim has bounced back to write a new theatre show ‘From Deadpan to Bedpan‘ which debuted at the Edinburgh fringe festival 2018; documenting through humour, the accident and his battle to fight back.
