Martin Keown
Former Arsenal and England footballer Martin Keown, is now a well-known face on our TV football screens. Appearing regularly as a TV pundit on several channels sharing his insight on the day’s games. He has also been called on to comment on various Champions League matches.
Football career
Before becoming a television pundit, Martin Keown had had an impressive footballing career stretching over a quarter of a century. Playing in 311 matches for Arsenal between 1993 and 2004. Other teams that he played for include Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester City. It was with the Gunners that he made his biggest impact of his career. Helping them capture nine major trophies.
England
Throughout his career – including 43 appearances for his national team England – Martin played 629 games and scored 10 goals. Unfortunately, the statistics do not record how many goals Keown prevented from being scored when he played in defence for Arsenal and England. His partnership with Tony Adams at the heart of the Arsenal defense was considered one of the most formidable in modern football. The now motivational speaker was a record holder in the Champions League. For playing for the longest time before his team conceded a goal.
Martin Keown Coach / Speaker
Although he left Arsenal as a player in 2004, Martin has kept working with the club in the capacity of coach, trainer and scout. He has also coached Oxford University’s Blues. As a speaker, he is always worth listening to. Particularly his stories about playing for England in the World Cups of 1998 and 2002. Plus his comparisons of the contrasting methods of George Graham and Arsene Wenger. It is this huge experience that Martin has gathered over the years that make him popular as a motivational speaker. Combined with his strongly expressed views. His gentle sense of humour and his winning smile.
