John Inverdale
John Inverdale has been one of the most well-known broadcasters in Britain for almost 40 years. He works for both the BBC and ITV. During his radio career, he has presented coverage of many major sporting events including the Olympic Games, Wimbledon, the Grand National and the FIFA World Cup. John celebrated four decades as part of the BBC Wimbledon commentary team. He is one of Britain’s foremost sports presenters.
Broadcasting career
John Inverdale fronted the coverage of nine Olympic Games, alongside most other major sporting events including Football and Rugby World Cups, Open Championships and Cheltenham Festivals. He has also hosted ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ on numerous occasions which regularly attracts audiences in excess of 10 million. Also fronting a 3-part investigation into the history of gambling for BBC1.
John has anchored Grandstand and Rugby Special. He hosted John Inverdale’s Football Night and the sports chat show On Side. John has also presented the popular drivetime show on Radio 5 Live and several series of the World’s Strongest Man.
Positions
He is now on the board of Cheltenham Racecourse, a member of the RFU Council, and a member of the All England Club. He is an Ambassador for the Wooden Spoon charity. John’s experience across most major sports gives him an unrivalled perspective on the issues that confront the modern sporting landscape, while also providing a lifetime’s stories of the good, the bad and the absurd.
A wonderfully relaxed and dry-humoured presenter, John has been named Sony Broadcaster and Radio Personality of the Year. He is actively involved with Sport Relief and in his spare time serves as Chairman of Rugby at Esher RFC and President of Lincoln City Supporters Club.
