Andy Cole began playing football in his youth, leaving school in 1988 playing for Arsenal. In 1989 he signed professional for the team and aged just 19 he made his only League appearance for the team; against Sheffield United in a First Division match. After playing with Arsenal for a period of time, Andy was signed for £1.75 million by Newcastle United. Andy made 70 appearances for the team and scored an impressive 55 goals. Whilst with Newcastle he had the opportunity to play in the UEFA Cup and was also voted PFA Young Player of the Year.

In 1995 Andy Cole was shockingly sold in a deal to Manchester United, raking in an astounding £7 million. Andy played in 18 Premier League matches for the team, managing to score a worthy 12 goals in those matches. During the 1997-98 season, Andy was considered the first-choice striker for the team. Andy also played a key part in the team’s success of claiming the Premier League title and their performance in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

After playing successfully with Manchester United for a period of time; Andy Cole was sold to the Blackburn Rovers in an £8 Million deal. After spending only two months at the club Andy had already collected a League Cup winners medal. Awarded after he scored the winning goal for the Rovers in the 2002 Football League Cup final. This victory was important for Andy as it meant that over seven seasons he had won all four domestic trophies and a European trophy.

Injury Set Back

In the 2004-05 season, Andy Cole joined Fulham in a one year contract; a year that saw him being Fulham’s top scorer. After spending the year with Fulham, Andy signed for Manchester City, where he played for a while before injury ended his 2005-06 season. After recovering from injury Andy went on to play for Portsmouth, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest football clubs.

Andy Cole in Retirement

After retiring from playing football in 2008, Andy went on to be a football coach. He was hired by his former Manchester United team-mate to coach the team initially on a temporary basis. After a period of time, he joined the coaching team full time claiming the title of forward and attack coach.
