Mark Nicholas’ Cricket career

Prior to his broadcasting career, Mark Nicholas was a talented middle-order batsman and sometimes dabbled in medium-paced bowling. Making his debut for Hampshire in 1978, he went on to play for the team for 17 years, including spending time as captain. During this period, he won four major trophies and can discuss these successes when booked as an exceptional cricket speaker.

Retirement

Upon retiring in 1995, he made the transition into broadcasting. Initially, he worked as a commentator for Sky Sports before moving in front of the camera in 1999 as the anchorman for Channel 4’s coverage of the sport. He was trusted with fronting coverage of major international Test series including the Ashes.

These days, Mark Nicholas is regarded more for his broadcasting career than his playing days – making him one of the most unique cricket speakers in the business. Awards

He’s a natural relaxed talent for broadcasting. In 2001 he won the prestigious Sports Presenter of the Year award, and he was called upon for coverage of other events too. This includes anchoring coverage of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, and acting as a regular stand-in for the daytime show Richard and Judy.

In recent years he has hosted Cricket on 5 for Channel 5, and worked on the Australian channel Nine Network where he provided coverage of major cricket events, and the 2012 Olympics. He can still be found commentating and presenting huge cricket matches around the world while also working as an accomplished cricket speaker.
