David Dickinson is the the real life Lovejoy; although David wears a suit and has a different style in patter. He was born and breed in Manchester. He was very much the budding entrepreneur working in the textile industry. David met his wife in the sixties, she was a hard working cabaret singer on the international nightclub circuit. David became her manager, and together they travelled the world. It was at this point that David began his interest in Antiques eventually opening his own shop.
An Olympic Start
In 1996 a chance meeting with a TV producer at a BBQ lead to David’s first TV appearance. A two part doc for the BBC made about his preparation for an antiques show at Olympia. This lead to him hosting the National TV Award winning game show Bargain Hunt for BBC; the prime time editions bagged 7.5 million viewers on BBC1.
