Sue Smith

A former international footballer Sue Smith has established herself as one of the countries leading female soccer pundits. Sue has been a regular on Soccer Saturday and others for many years. She combines her considerable work for Sky with appearances for Premier League Productions and the BBC, where she is a much admired co-commentator.

Beginnings

Sue began her career playing for Tranmere Rovers, where she played for 8 years. Following her time there she then played for Leeds United for another 8 years until 2010. Sue then featured for Lincoln Ladies for a year before seeing out the last 6 years of her career at Doncaster Rovers Belles.

England International

However it was for the England team where Sue really made her name. Sue made 93 appearances for England scoring 16 goals. In that time she made her debut as a 17-year-old, scoring against Germany, scoring a hat trick against Spain in 2001. Sue twice won the Nationwide International Player Of The Year Award – in 1999 and 2001. In 1991 she was also voted Players’ Player of the Year.

Retirement

Since retiring Sue has been a regular on our TV screens for both the BBC and Sky Sports. Sue is a key part of the famous Soccer Saturday show and joins ‘The Football Show’ every Monday on Sky Sports News for the definitive look back at the weekends action.

She combines her considerable work for Sky Sports which also includes punditry and co-commentary across WSL and EFL action, with appearances for Premier League Productions and the BBC, where she has contributed co-commentary to International Football coverage for many years.
