Davina McCall was born on 16 October 1967 in London. She attended the Godolphin and Latymer Girls School, an independent school in Hammersmith, London. Davina’s earliest passion was music. At the age of 15, while studying for her nine O levels and later two A levels; McCall sang professionally with a band, went solo at the age of 19, produced demo music discs, ran many successful nightclubs in London; and even appeared in Kylie Minogue’s music video ‘Word is Out’.
Davina McCall Big Break
Davina McCall got her first TV break in 1992 when she landed a job presenting her own show on MTV. In 1995 she went on to host the ITV game show God’s Gift; which she presented for 3 years. Before becoming the anchor presenter on Don’t Try This at Home for ITV1 in 1998; and prime time cult show Streetmate (Channel 4 1998-2000) in 1998.
Davina McCall Big Brother
In 2000, Davina McCall was chosen to present the hugely popular Channel 4 reality show Big Brother. Which she has continued ever since; hosting all ten series of Big Brother and all seven seasons of Celebrity Big Brother. Following her success in the cult reality show, Davina went on to present the Brit Awards in 2001; as well as BBC charity show Comic Relief.
After eleven incredible series, Davina McCall hosted the final ever Big Brother show on Channel 4 in 2010. Whilst BB might have ended, Davina’s TV schedule was as busy as ever. 2010 was also the launch year for two brand new series hosted by Davina, Sky 1’s smash primetime hit, Got To Dance; and Channel 4’s ground breaking and Award Winning The Million Pound Drop Live.
Four Shows And A Wedding
2002 saw her hosting Popstars: The Rivals (ITV1) followed by The Vault and in 2003, Oblivious (both ITV1); and the reality TV show Reborn in the USA. She also hosts The Brit Awards for a second time in 2003. In 2000, Davina McCall married Matthew Robertson and the couple have gone on to have three children: Holly, Tilly and Chester.
Davina McCall Saturday Night
In 2004 she hosted the new ITV1 prime time show Love on a Saturday Night; and later that year, Davina was chosen to present the prestigious BAFTA Television Awards. Davina McCall hosted her own chat show on BBC One called Davina which aired in early 2006. Shortly afterwards, ITV1 signed her up to host the BAFTA Television Awards for the second time.
Sport Relief
Soon after, Davina McCall became the main presenter on Sport Relief on BBC One alongside friend Chris Evans. She continues to be a strong support for Sport Relief and Comic Relief; and regularly hosts the TV fundraising nights for both charities. She is also an active supporter and campaigner for the charities Focus 12 and Action Medical Research.
Davina McCall Talks Dirty
Davina McCall starred in the BBC documentary ‘Let’s Talk Sex’; looking at how sex education is taught in Britain (one of the countries of Europe with the highest teenage pregnancy levels). She has also published a book under the same title. Such was the power of her work on this topic; ‘sex and relationship education’ will now be on the UK curriculum.
Davina Acting Out
Davina McCall has also turned her hand at acting, appearing in Sam’s Game (2001), a Friends style TV sitcom; as well as Leigh Francis comedy sketch shows Bo Selecta and A Bear’s Tail. She also provided the voice of an android version of herself for the Doctor Who episode “Bad Wolf” in 2005; and played herself as a human and subsequently as a bloodthirsty zombie in Dead Set in 2008.
Drop The Loser
With the continued massive success of Million Pound Drop and Got to Dance; Davina McCall has also been the host of ITV’s hit shows The Biggest Loser and Long Lost Family, since 2011. The highly anticipated third series of the award winning Long Lost Family hit TV screens in Late Spring 2013.
Look Great With Davina McCall
Davina McCall hosted Five Minutes to a Fortune, an exciting new entertainment show for Channel 4 from April 2013. Davina has also been the face (and hair) for the L’Oreal brands Garnier and Nutrisse, for the past ten years; and is, without doubt, the UK’s Number 1 fitness DVD franchise. Having produced and sold over 1.5 million copies of her nine top selling exercise DVDs including the most recent, Davina Intense; entering the digital world with her App, “Davina Fitness” (available on iTunes and Android).
Since 2010 Davina McCall has had her own line of fitness equipment with Argos; and in 2011, joined up with the high street giant Next, to design a bespoke range of FIT shoes (with ground breaking toning tech). As well as technical fitness clothing and “comfy” wear that has flown off the shelves (Davina by Next). In October 2012, Davina, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Alan Carr, Dr Christian and Cancer Research UK; launched the UKs version of the epic US charity fundraising show Stand Up to Cancer. Hosting over 6 hours of TV for Channel4 and raising £7 million… and counting!
