Christopher Biggins
Christopher Biggins is a well-known British actor and television presenter with a career spanning over five decades. He works as an Actor, Celebrity & TV Personality, After Dinner Speaker and Event Host & Auctioneer. His TV shows include Porridge, I Claudius and Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads. Renowned for his engaging and charismatic speaking style, Christopher’s reputation as a great speaker stems from his ability to captivate audiences with his humour, warmth, and extensive experience in the entertainment industry.
Beginnings
Christopher Biggins started his training at Salisbury Repertory Theatre and later at Bristol Old Vic as a prelude to his first West End appearance – creating the role of Head Jumbly in The Owl and The Pussycat Went to Sea. He has also taken part in a successful run of The Play What I Wrote; directed by Kenneth Brannagh; and is a regular guest as The Narrator in the National Tour of The Rocky Horror Show.
Television
From Porridge to I’m A Celebrity, Christopher Biggins has graced our screens for over thirty years. This multi-talented actor, humourist, writer and general raconteur counts the worlds most glamorous stars as his best friends and brings his own inimitable sense of humour and warmth to any production. Most recently, he was a regular panellist on BBC2’s Debatable, was a special guest on ITV1’s Live at The Palladium, won thousands for charity on DAVE’s Celebrity Storage Hunters and voiced Channel 5 panel show It’s Not Me, It’s You.
In 1984 Biggins was a regular face on prime time ITV working with his close friend Cilla Black on Surprise Surprise.The premise involved surprising members of the public with long-held wishes, setting up tricks to fool members of the public, prank calls to people and reuniting guests with long-lost loved ones.
Recently Biggins made appearances on shows including Celebrity Crystal Maze, Through the Keyhole, The Wright Stuff, Tipping Point Lucky Stars, Loose Women and The Imitation Game.
This is your Life
In 1999 Biggins was surprised by Michael Aspel at a curtain call of the pantomime Mother Goose on the stage of the Theatre Royal in Brighton when he was presented with the big red book and became the recipient of an edition of This is Your Life. Amongst the guests appearing to pay tribute were Cilla Black, Gillian Taylforth, Bea Arthur, Paula Wilox, Bonnie Langford, Barbara Windson, Joan Collins and Lynda Bellingham
Christopher Biggins in The Jungle
Christopher won over a whole new audience when he was crowned King Of The Jungle after winning series 7 of the hit ITV1 show, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here but his career began many years earlier.
Theatre
Equally successful on stage as TV, some of his iconic roles include those in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Rocky Horror Show. He is a regular on the Edinburgh Fringe and has been a pantomime dame at Christmas for more years than he cares to remember.
Christopher has also managed to fit in a year with The Royal Shakespeare Company appearing in London Assurance with Judi Dench and Donald Sinden. Other theatre work includes a National tour of Side by Side BY Sondheim, Beyond The Fringe, A Touch of Spring and more recently Cluedo and On Approval. In the summer of 1990 Christopher played and sang the role of Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar at London’s Barbican Theatre.
Pantomime
Biggins is also a well-known performer in British pantomimes, often starring in drag roles, and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at The Great British Pantomime Awards in 2017.
He has played Widow Twankey in Aladdin (in Plymouth in 2009, Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton in 2010), Buttons in Cinderella (at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton in 2008), and the title role in Winnie the Pooh. In 2011, Biggins played the part of Mrs Crusoe in the Robinson Crusoe pantomime at the New Theatre, Cardiff and returned to the Theatre Royal, Plymouth in Dick Whittington in December 2012. In 2023 he played the Man in the Mirror in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.
