Sony and Writers’ Guild Award winning writer and comedian, Mark Steel is best known for his acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Mark Steel’s In Town. Mark also presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC Two. He is a regular on BBC One’s ‘Have I Got News For You’ and BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz.
Mark Steel: TV Shows
Mark Steel has also appeared on ‘QI’, ‘Room 101, and ‘Question Time’ as well as writing several acclaimed books, including: ‘Reasons To Be Cheerful’ and ‘What’s Going On’ and he writes a weekly column for The Independent, which trends on social media each week.
Stand Up Comedy
The substance of his work is generated by his comedy and strong views on matters. Mark started as stand up comedian in 1982. Working the few comedy clubs that were around at the time, eventually moving on playing the Comedy Store and Jongleurs.
Radio Regular
Gaining a reputation for clever, no none sense, satirical approach to his performances; which in turn helped gain him a regular slot on Radio 4’s Loose Ends, four series of ‘The Mark Steel Solution’, one for Radio 5 and the others on Radio 4 and a radio series on cricket, which provoked an outrage in the Daily Express. He further presented three series of the sports show ‘Extra Time’. This followed by a four part series of the lectures on Radio 4 and a three part TV series of the lectures on BBC 4 and BBC 2.
Mark Steel On Tour
Mark Steel regularly tours his comedy shows; spending Spring 2018 on the road, with his show ‘Every Little Things Gonna be Alright’. Which in took in a full run at the Edinburgh fringe festival.
