If you are of the opinion that every page of your morning paper is filled with doom, destruction and downfall, well… we understand. The daily press are often telling us how everything is going wrong and there is nothing we can do about it. It must be true. The papers are always right. Well, now comes a show that questions all those assumptions, a show that ridicules the naysayers, unravels the spin and pooh-poohs the pomposity of headline print. The Early Edition was created as a live spin-off from the highly acclaimed BBC 4 show The Late Edition. After complete sell-outs at the Edinburgh Festival in 2006 & 2007, Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival in 2008 and then storming the tents at Latitude and Bestival Festivals in 2008 it went on to have a highly successful run on London’s South Bank (National theatre). Marcus Brigstocke along with Comicus has now adopted this successful format for the corporate events market place.
During each show at the above Festivals, two well known/topical guests will help the hosts pull apart the views and opinions found in the recent and regional newspapers. Previous guests include Phill Jupitus, Punt & Dennis, Dom Joly, Stewart Lee, Frank Skinner, Nicholas Parsons, Ed Byrne, Dave Gorman, Rich Hall, Mark Steel and Les Dennis to name a few. Now corporate delegates, managing director, clients have a chance to work and join Marcus in a team show that will get conference audiences roaring with laughter.
Corporate Format (The Early Edition)
The Early Edition is a great way to start the day at a conference. Marcus will take the morning newspapers and present a humorous look at the stories making the papers that day. Marcus can be joined by a company director or employee to give their views on what is making the news, not necessarily political. There are often excellent articles and stories hidden away in the pages of newspapers not fully realising the comic potential some of these stories can generate. Interaction from delegates is encouraged with Marcus taking the lead role in hosting this unique and often hilarious satirical experience. The show is adaptable to fit client’s needs and some have booked Marcus to appear in cabaret the night before and used his ‘Early Edition’ show as a motivation for the delegates the next morning. Others have brought Marcus in especially to do the show. Marcus spends time with company delegate(s) who are guesting with him on stage by showing them the potential in a newspaper story and working out opinions, views and advise on presentation which are the key factors to driving the humour.
Marcus Brigstocke is one of Comicus’s highlighted comedians. Having worked with Marcus for over 15 years and seen his TV profile raise as well as the quality and unprecedented reputation of his live shows and many corporate performances (hosting awards and cabaret spots) together we have developed a unique corporate experience with his show ‘The Early Edition’.
