Singer Songwriter Sarah Harrison has been writing her own compositions, accompanied by her trusted Acoustic guitar, since the tender age of eight.
Songs with a sensitivity and passion which, as quoted numerous times, “would make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.”
Sarah plays in her own band as well as guesting in others including the stylish ‘Fedora cafe’. She often plays solo acoustic sets with her own material. A very shy girl at heart, but on stage she totally comes alive visually as well as vocally.
Sarah has had a varied musical career, which includes working with the likes of Mark Hill (Artful Dodger). Mark also co-wrote with Craig David. She has also worked with Ben Langmaid (formerly from Huff n Herb). Most recently, Ben is known as the guy behind La Roux.
Sarah moved to London in 1999 and gained an insight into the music industry by working as a music promoter in Leicester Square in Sound Republic, (home to the Pepsi Chart Show) and as a music/audio and lighting technician, whilst still performing solo and full band gigs with some of the best session musicians in the UK. In London she worked with a brilliant producer, Jim Bell of ‘All Out Music’ and managed to produce a 12 track CD of her own songs. One of her songs ‘Way of Living’, was then used on a short but powerful film, which is still doing the rounds at the festivals.
Sarah has performed at various venues over the years including The Mayflower Theatre, Portsmouth Guildhall, Winchester Guildhall and Southampton Guildhall. She has also played at Sound Republic in Leicester Square and The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth.
Sarah has been humbled by comments from various people such as the brilliant vocalist Sam Brown. “Did you see Sarah Harrison? F****** Respect Man!”
Xan Phillips, music journalist, wrote “Sarah has one of those remarkable voices that comes from somewhere else. The size and depth of the vocals do not match her frame.” Sarah also went on to sing live on Xan’s radio show. Jim Devlin, Leonard Cohen’s biographer, wrote “there’s a strong ‘voice’ and voice there; it’s a modern sound but rooted in real music, that’s what I hear: no pretend stuff, I hear an honest voice and behind it all a beating heart with stories to tell.”
Currently Sarah is working on a few different music projects as well as performing her songs acoustically or with her fantastic band, ‘SHB’ (Sarah Harrison Band). Next on her busy list, she intends to get back into the studio to record all of her new material.
