A former winner of The Apprentice who now runs a multi-million-pound recruitment agency, Ricky Martin is one of the most successful and knowledgeable businessmen around. Able to combine his professional persona with a natural sense of humour, Ricky is the perfect person to book as an after-dinner speaker, as he can interact with audiences sharing numerous anecdotes on his career.
A qualified biochemist who graduated from the University of Cardiff, Ricky is a recognised member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Passionate about science from an early age, he spent his early age career placing a variety of technical experts into science based companies all over the country. With over a decade’s worth of experience in scientific recruitment, Ricky has been accredited by The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), where he also sits as Vice Chair of their Life Sciences Committee.
In 2012 he entered BBC One’s The Apprentice and was an instant hit with viewers. His no nonsense approach to business, alongside his excellent people skills made him a favourite from the start and these qualities also make him an excellent after dinner speaker. After winning the show and receiving a £250,000 investment from world renowned businessman Lord Sugar, Ricky launched Hyper Recruitment Solutions (HRS).
The premise of HRS is to support science companies throughout Europe by providing them with specialist science and technology employees. The company have quickly established themselves as one of the leading names in the recruitment industry, with annual revenues of over £5 million HRS are the most socially engaging recruitment agency in the country and this is largely down to Ricky’s hard work over the years.
Ricky also has a number of interests outside of his business. A keen sportsman, he used to be a professional wrestler under the stage name Ricky Hype. Performing all around the world, he was UK Heavyweight and a UK Tag Team Champion as well as auditioning for WWE.
Matthew Willetts MA is the Director of Comicus who has over 35 years experience in television, film, theatre, and comedy club/cabaret entertainment, working as a performer, screenwriter, producer and agent. He lectured at Southampton Solent University in Comedy, Screenwriting, Television, Theatre & Radio. Matthew can sometimes be seen and heard on TV & Radio and often quoted in the national press and media publications. As well as speaking regularly at festivals and industry conferences, he has been a judge at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Montreux Television Festival.
