Dame Joan’s broadcasting career continues into its fourth decade, with her series for BBC Radio 3: Belief. Joan Bakewell also appears on Radio 4’s Saturday Live, BBC 1’s Daily Politics and GMTV’s Sunday programme. Her latest play was broadcast on Radio 4 in 2007. Her first novel was published early in 2009.

Joan’s three areas of interest are: the arts, religion and old age. She was BBC TV’s arts correspondent through the 80’s; and was later on the board of the National Theatre, The Aldeburgh Festival and Friends of the Tate. She is currently Chair of the theatre company Shared Experience and also of The National Campaign for the Arts.
Heart Of The Matter
In the 90’s Joan Bakewell presented Heart of the Matter on BBC 1. A show that dealt with moral and religious dilemmas of our times. A selection of her interviews for her radio series Belief were published in 2005. In 2003 she began a column for The Guardian called Just Seventy. In 2007 she published “The View from Here: Life at 70”. She has a weekly column in The Independent each Friday.
Joan Bakewell was appointed Dame Commander, of the Order of the British Empire (DBE); in the 2008 Birthday Honours. In November 2008 Joan was made ‘The Voice of Older People’ by the Government; acting as an independent and informed advocate, on issues affecting older people’s lives.

Matthew Willetts MA is the Director of Comicus who has over 35 years experience in television, film, theatre, and comedy club/cabaret entertainment, working as a performer, screenwriter, producer and agent. He lectured at Southampton Solent University in Comedy, Screenwriting, Television, Theatre & Radio. Matthew can sometimes be seen and heard on TV & Radio and often quoted in the national press and media publications. As well as speaking regularly at festivals and industry conferences, he has been a judge at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Montreux Television Festival.
