He made a plan to achieve world No.1 ranking, within five years. Working closely with Andy Flower, the target was met in half the time. Strauss earned a name for gritty and intelligent leadership.
After leaving a career in the City, Andrew scored a century on his Test debut at Lords. He went on to be rated one of the finest batsmen in the game, scoring over 7,000 runs. A resourceful and dependable opening bat, he often made valuable contributions in tricky situations; and he is known for his leadership and professionalism.
On & Off The Field
On the field Andrew led by example, with a mix of grit and intelligence. Off the field he was equally popular with fans and the media, doing a huge amount to promote the game. He retired from the pitch after his 100th Test and took to commentary work with Sky. He was approached to become Director of Cricket; after a rough period for the team, with his successor Alastair Cook.
